This guitar is in good condition with some minor cosmetic wear. The most noticeable wear is some scratching on the back and some dings in the finish on the lower horn of the body. Structurally there are no issues and the frets still have lots of life left in them. The original Gibson pickups have been replaced with Seymour Duncan humbuckers with an APH-1N in the neck position and an SH-11 in the bridge. Aside from this everything else looks to be original. It is currently strung with light gauge D'Addario strings and playing well. The original GIbson hardshell case is included.

This guitar was offered from 1998 to 2004 and was released for the 40th anniversary of the Flying V model that originally came out in 1958. This model was more of a tribute to the original guitar as opposed to a reissue as this guitar doesn't feature the same woods and some of the hardware is different from the 1958 models.

Here is the write up from Gibson taken from the 1998 press release

"In 1958 "At the Hop" by Danny and the Juniors topped the radio and record charts for 7 straight weeks, surpassing two other monster hits that year-“The Purple People Eater” by Sheb Wooley and “The Chipmunk Song” by, of course, The Chipmunks. In that same year Gibson's Ted McCarty met a challenge from rival Leo Fender and introduced three revolutionary, highly stylized solidbody electric guitars-the Explorer, the fabled lost Moderne, and the Flying V.

To celebrate the 40-year history of the Gibson Flying V and it's two modernistic soulmates, Gibson USA introduces the limited edition Flying V '98. This latest model shares a close kinship to the original Korina (African limba wood) version introduced in 1958. Knobs have been positioned in-line, and the input jack has been moved to their original locations. This updated classic is now complete with quality Grover tuners. Natural, Natural Burst, and Translucent Purple finishes command powerful impressions.

Other new limited editions include the Gibson Explorer in two natural finishes-Natural Burst and Natural, and the famed Gibson Thunderbird IV bass in Natural, Natural Burst, and Ebony Stain finishes."
