This guitar is in good condition with some noticeable cosmetic wear and a few repairs. The headstock at some point suffered a burn and required the finish on the headstock to be removed by our techs. The burn is still partially visible but is only very apparent up close, the logo is still perfectly intact and we have oiled the headstock after the finish was removed. There is a repaired top crack that has been cleated previously, our techs have checked it out and the crack is holding great with no signs of movement. The frets show some wear but the intrument plays well as it is and still has enough fret height for a fret dress.
The original case is included, the strap that keeps the case from fully opening up has broken which is very common on these cases. The case still stays shut with no issues when latched. A K&K Pure Mini pickup with a volume control has been installed and is working great.
From Martin
This writeup is from the 2000 Martin Catalog
"Martin launched this much imitated 'Standard Series' line nearly a century ago and set the standard for all modern acoustic guitar - starting with the Dreadnought, a shap that Martin built in 1916 to provied a bigger, richer guitar sound at a time when there was no amplification, for the accompaniment of singers in larger settings, including auditoriums.
These instruments constiute the historic core of the Martin line and represent the majority of sizes and styles that have evolved this century. The 'Standard Series' models are known for resonant warmth of tone with tastefully restrained styling. For the most part, Martin is credited with inventing these styles and shapes, and guitar makers in general have moved to adopt Martin's size designations as the standard for the industry.
Standard features for the 'Standard Series' generally include solid wood top, back, and sides, polished gloss finish, and a hand-fit dovetail neck attachment."
This is what the catalog says regarding the HD-28
"The HD-28 is the herringbone version of the D-28 - vintage features include herringbone top trim, a traditional zig-zag backstrip, and Martin's famous scalloped X-bracing."
