This model was introduced in 1952 as the 1123 Solid Body Electric Spanish and was advertised as such until 1956 when it was renamed the Bolero. All of this information as well as the serial number were all found using Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars.
This guitar is in good condition with some noticeable wear. The tuners have been replaced with vintage style heads and new CTS pots have been put in. This guitar shows its age with lots of dings and wear on body and neck but this is purely cosmetic and does not impede the playability of the guitar. The frets have some visible wear but again the instrument still plays well across the fretboard. The electronics are all original and working well with no issues. A slightly oversized vintage case is included with the guitar.
This guitar has a weight of 5.6lbs and a scale length of 24 3/4"
Here is the writeup from National in their catalog from 1955
"The 1123 guitar is virtually the same as the No. 1122 described above (which in the catalog is the non cutaway Cosmopolitan model) except for the fact that is of the popular NATIONAL cutaway design.
The same National features are incorporated into this model - the Stylist Hand-Fit neck; new pickup unit; adjustable rosewood bridge and extension tailpiece; individual string adjustment; leather neck strap and beautiful shaded sunburst finish.
However, the functional styling of the cutaway provides easy access to all frets and becomes a most attractive instrument"
