This vintage lap steel is in in very good condition with some cosmetic wear. The original knobs both have cracks near the set screw but are working well still, there is a small crack near the first fret by the mounting screw and there is some tarnishing to the metal components. None of these hinder the playability of the instrument. The output jack looks to have been replaced at some point in time but other than that everything seems to be original. An era correct case is included with the guitar.

Based on the serial number we have dated this to 1952.

This is the writeup from National as found in the 1952 catalog

"The easy-to-read keyboard and trouble-free operation of the "Chicagoan) have established it as one of the most popular student and professional Electric Hawaiian instruments. Smooth action tone and volume controls features of the "Chicagoan" which has a durable glossy finish, popular 23" scale Plexiglas elevated fingerboard. Other "Chicagoan" equipment is a non-tarnishing hand rest, non-slip suede back, nickel-plated gear covers and a locked power unit with high impedance output"
